Over the last decade the Mediterranean sea has become more and more polluted by the effluent flowing into it from the south coast of Spain. This is mainly caused by the agricultural industry i.e. the Greenhouses and raw sewage. One of the main problems are dry river beds called ramblers, they are a magnet for all the waste and rubbish and after heavy rain all that is in the rambler gets washed into the Sea.
As a consequence of this and Global warming the Med is now at risk of becoming a dead sea.
The last 4 years has seen an increase in the numbers of Jellyfish along the coast, making it almost impossible to swim in the Med.
Red algie is on the increase because of the warmer sea temprateures. This red algie kills all other vegitation on the sea bed and destroys the habitat of the fish that live there. The small fish are the main food source for the larger animals that live in the Med. It has been reported by a local newspaper that if things keep going the way they are, the Med will be devoid of marine life in the next few decades.
